Letting your friend to be eaten by a monster while you go to fuck the popular guy is the best way to write a villain. She made Jonathan lose his job because she is 'so driven' so even when they want to push a redemptiom to her, she is always imbued with too many flaws in this case elitism. Making Nancy suffer sexism for sympathy points doesn't make her more likeable when all there girls are also brave, struggle with the same thing offscreen and Robin for example, is a lesbian and may suffer homophobia etc. That's what I mean that her writing is not great. Some traits simply make a character unlikeable. Anyway it's still a great show, and sure, taste is taste, I'm sure those who like Nancy have their reasons, but those who dislike her - or any character have right to do so as well. As for flawed hero Steve is better and the story acknowledged him as an anti hero in first seasons, even though he got a 'redemption' and now the writers don't know much what to do with him anymore, so they use him as comedic relief mostly. But she is annoying but supposed to be one of the heroines, so she is meant to be likeable. I'm talking about feminism because some people said that those who don't like her are sexist which is a cheap argumentation. I mean Nancy's flaws add absolutely nothing to the plot. But when other females are as brave and more likeable, there's something up. If this was Gossip Girl or another chick flick maybe she would fit as the mean girl with a heart of gold -maybe. Ok, I understand why someone wouldn't want to befriend the supposed actual of the ex, specially a teenager - even though Nancy is the one who'd dumped and cheated him but whatever - it's just that the writing is not great. Robin is great and tried to befriend Nancy who rolls her eyes to her because she thought she was dating Steve (whose she cheated and is her ex). Max and Eleven are great friends of each other. I’m only halfway through S2 and I already hate her guts…ĭoes she really not get better after S3? :(įeminism is also about upholding other women. She then literally admits that she doesn’t love Steve, and when he goes back to confront her she can’t say it then either!!!! I’m guessing she led him on for almost a year because she didn’t wanna be alone, which just makes it even fucking worse! She’s self-centered and cruel. But don’t think for a second that blaming Steve for what was honestly an incident that couldn’t be controlled by any means is the way to go. I get it, you saw Barb die and you’re traumatized. I figured she could improve for S2.īut season 2 she just got so much worse. She goes behind Steve’s back constantly, granted for important reasons, but she can’t even offer him an apology for any of this! End of Season 1, I was feeling relatively mid about her. She probably knows that Johnathan is desperate for a friend, maybe even knowing he has a crush on her, so she uses that to her advantage the whole time. But even then, through the entirety of season 1, Nancy spends all her time essentially manipulating Johnathan to help her. Midway through the season, she got nicer when Barb ended up a victim of the demogorgon, so it was nice to see her genuinely try to protect Steve from harm and worry about her family’s safety. Season 1, she was just bratty and really self-centered when it came to spending time with Steve, putting her needs over the safety of the entire family when Will disappeared.
